That backyard BBQ party (okay, and the carafe of spiked lemonade) is calling your name, so let’s get right to it. This brilliant upper body move—called The Elbow Fly—is from the team at The Barre Code and doesn’t require any equipment. “The exercise is great for your shoulders, upper and middle back and your chest,” co-founders Ariana Chernin and Jillian Lorenz told us. Here’s how to do it:
Start standing with your feet directly under your hips and a slight bend in the knees. Bring your hands behind your head with your elbows wide. Squeeze your chest muscles and bring your elbows to meet in the middle of your torso without removing your hands from behind your head. Don’t allow your elbows to dip below shoulder-height! Slowly reverse the movement (imagine you’re trying to bring your shoulder blades to touch) to return to start. Do 25 reps.
